Your Instructor
Vanessa began studying dance at the age of 3 and found an intense passion for modern dance and fitness in high school. During college, Vanessa had the unique opportunity to study and perform at the Beijing Dance Academy in Beijing, China, and attended the London Contemporary Dance School at The Place in England. Having performed in original works by many contemporary dance choreographers, Vanessa moved to New York City with a dream of performing on a professional level. In 2002, upon completing her advanced studies, Vanessa performed with the Dodge Dance Company as a founding member and soloist. Her professional opportunities also included working with internationally acclaimed dance photographer, Lois Greenfield, who featured Vanessa's dance portraits in her 2007, 2008, 2013, and 2014 calendars.
Vanessa started her fitness career in big box and boutique gyms in NYC in 2002 and VCNfitness was founded in 2010.
Vanessa holds a BA in dance from Connecticut College ('99), and an MFA in dance from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts ('02), with over 2 years of study in physiology, anatomy and kinesiology. She is currently an ACTION CPT, and has been certified by AFTA and the PhysicalMind Institute in Pilates Mat and standing Pilates, as well as, by the Red Cross and American Heart Association in CPR with AED. Vanessa is a Qualified TRX professional. In 2018, Vanessa was certified as a Spartan SGX Coach.
Vanessa's clients range in age from 10-85 year old women and men of different fitness abilities, with different goals, and each with a unique WHY. What is absolutely central to Vanessa's philosophy is that each client is unique and when teaching, Vanessa focuses of offering modifications for all levels.
